Amazon.co.uk Review Proving that the Xbox 360 isn’t just for hardcore fans of shooters and racing games, Lips offers a karaoke extravaganza that should appeal to fans of the popular SingStar range. The basics work the same as any karaoke game: You sing along to a wide range of music videos, trying to match the same pitch and tone as the original. Each song comes with the original music video | Keep the rhythm, and watch the game rate your peformance | Mercy by Duffy is just one of the many songs included | Pick your favourite tune, or download more from Xbox Live | Lips comes bundled with motion-sensitive microphones, so how you move--not just how you sing--also becomes a part of game play. Other people without microphones can join in, too, using standard Xbox 360 controllers for virtual claps, cowbells, and other accompaniments. You aren't restricted to singing just the songs that are included on the game disc. You can sing along to any of the .MP3 files stored on your Xbox 360's hard drive. "Lips" should ensure more than a few fun party moments--even if the neighbours do complain. Key Features - Sing along: Croon to the original music videos for songs from the likes of Duffy, Young MC, and Peter Bjorn and John.
- Motion mics: The game comes bundled with two unique motion-sensing microphones, which allow you to dance or play an instrument as you sing.
- My song: Sing along to songs from your own .MP3 collection by selecting any piece of music stored on the hard drive of your Xbox 360 or networked PC.
- Hi-tech chorus: Up to four people can join in on the same song, either as a duet or by using a controller to simulate a tambourine, cowbell, or other accompaniment.
- Greatest hits: Download new songs and music videos from Xbox Live to keep your stable of songs updated with the latest tracks or golden oldies.
About the Developer: iNiS Gitaroo Man and cult classic Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (and its spin-off Elite Beat Agents) are some of the best-known games from Japanese developer iNiS.

I Loved It! January 7, 2009 I was bought this for Christmas and I really like it. The fact that all the songs were unlocked and you didnt see a song you wanted to sing but couldn't. I've been to parties round people's houses with SingStar and if Im honest in a party situation SingStar sucks, whereas lips makes you feel like you might be able to sing. My stepdaughters were on it all weekend and I think if it was too challenging they would have switched off. In reply to anyone who says the single player mode is rubbish....why would you want to sing to yourself in an empty house anyway ? It's definetly a great one for parties !
good fun..... software needs update January 2, 2009 used this for my NYE party, was being used constantly but friends could get a high score by humming the correct tone, but that sounded awful so may as well sing the songs, good laugh overall..... slick interface and easy to play but the voice cancelling for the songs doesnt work that well, which i hope will be fixed on a patch/update.
def worth the money as the hardware is v cool, but the software needs sorting a little, with the original vocal filtering options and cheaper download content, roughly 1 a song/video.
great fun for parties December 29, 2008 I had a party organised for a load of friends a couple of days after christmas and after getting this as a present we decided this could be played at some point for a laugh. we ended up leaving lips on all day playing in the background, then whenever someone wanted to play we just shook a mike and it was in sing a long mode. I have played singstar and enjoyed it but everyone at the party agreed that lips seems to have moved the genre forward, you get cool mini games, great tunes(often hilarious), points for rhythym, technique and various other things and although only a small amount of downloadable content, who really believes that wont change?
If you wanted to sing the same note all through the rapping songs then im sure you might be very pleased with your high score, but thats about the only song you can do it on(whereas on singstar you can hum the bits you dont know and get top points) but where's the fun in that? after a few beers rapping to bust a move is brilliant, although you might need an oxygen mask nearby! The age range of people i was playing this game with was between 19 and 30 and a mix of girls and guys, and after a few drinks even the tone deaf people were up for singing so i'd say buy it, its great.
i really like it. December 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
can't really compare with singstar as i've not really much experience of s.star, but i think lips is really good. have used it with family over xmas with very pleasing results. the songs on the disk are a very good selection and from xbox live the downloadable songs are only about 1 which i think is very good value. I'm sure this will get quite a bit of use over the coming months. My kids (9 and 5) really like it.
Very disappointing - no party tunes December 28, 2008 My sister got this for Christmas - we were all in a party mood so loaded it up. We went right through the songs to find a party tune to sing, got right to the end and were sorely disappointed. Duffy's Mercy, Coldplay's Yellow, Leona's Bleeding Love - all good songs but nothing you want to get up and belt out at a party. So we went online to download some better tunes and were amazed at an even worse selection - there are only about 30 songs there. During the songs you have to strike poses - some of them are funny, some of them are just irritating and mean you can't sing into the mic and theylast for far too long.
We ended up loadingup some of her CDs, but if not everyone knows all the words this becomes a bit tedious after a while.
While I can see there are some nice features (if you shake the mic you get a tambourine or other percussion instrument - quite amusing), and the battle option is fun,on the whole this was a big disappointment. Singstar has such an amazing choice of music and I'm afraid this doesn't even come close.
We were on it for about 20 minutes before moving on to something else, and most of that was trying to find a party tune to sing.
I agree with the other reviews. Get singstar.
