 dont know why so many people are moaning December 29, 2008
i used to own the original psp and i was very impressed with the graphics and sound but i have to say the brightness of the screen was disappointing so after about two hours play on it my eyes used to strain but with the latest 3000 model the brightness is very much improved and gives the games and films a great deal more colour ,as for scan lines only if you hold it right up to your face you can notice it but i wont be doing that,the only downside to the console it does feel a bit plasticky but it is sony so it will be put together well, honestly dont be put off what others think buy one and make up your own mind

I wrote a review about the PSP 3000 a couple of days ago, and decided to edit it because of a change of opnion. At first I was very disapointed in the PSP 3000 and was going to take it back for a refund. Even at first glance I impressed that the quality of the graphics during game play, was of a much higher quality and far more immersive than the PSP 3000. And this was my reason for keeping the PSP 3000.
I hated the colour resolution of the PSP 3000 at first. But actually when comparing it and the PSP 2000, the PSP enhanced screen is a great improvement. There are sometimes imperfections such as scan lines, but when playing games you feel that the games are more on par with PS2 games, than hand held consol games. Watch films, music videos etc on the PSP 3000 is more like watch a high quality mini television screen. The PSP 2000 screen seems quite blurred in comparison to the new 3000 edition.
I still feel that the PSP 3000 consol with it's rounder edges, isn't as good a design as the shaper edged PSP 2000. But the quality of the screen is the most important thing. And regardless of the imperfection of tiny scan lines that can sometimes appear during game play, and the movement of the PSP menu, I recommend buying or upgrading to the PSP 3000 if you use a PSP a lot, because the new enhanced screen is awesome and far more realistic. I'm not really pleased I bought the PSP 3000 as it's a really cool upgrade.
I would give the PSP 3000, 4 out of 5 rating because I'm highly impressed with the enhanced screen.
Brilliant little gadget, dont be put off by scan lines December 27, 2008
Dont be put off by the complaints over scan lines. I have played several games on the psp, downloaded videos from youtube and put a DVD on there, and the screen quality in my opinion is brilliant. Yes if you look closely to the screen you may see scanlines, but in general normal use you will not see any problems. The screen is bright and vibrant, the multimedia capabilities are great, highly recommended.

Having heard all the complaints of the screen on the net and these reviews, tried to see one in the shop and could not so purchased this from Amazon to find out for myself....
The good points are a nice bright screen, very crisp display, lite in weight and nice styling (I did manage to get my old PSP 1000 screen to show almost as bright by pressing the screen button a few times).
As for the bad points, this is where I have to agree with all the people who have complained about the scanlines etc. Unfortunately it is true and can even be seen when simply scrolling on the PSP menu! It reminds me of the retro handheld consoles like the SEGA Game Gear or the old TVs where you could see horizontal lines. This really is unaceptable for an upgrade and was hoping to upgrade my PSP 1000 but have decided to send this back as for this price there is no excuse. Sony have somewhere slipped up on the screen which is a shame as overall it is not bad at all. Yes the plastic and feel is a lot cheaper than the PSP 1000 but the PSP 2000 is like this and looks like there is no way round this unless Sony suddenly decide to bring back that 'quality feel' of the PSP 1000 that the 2000 and 3000 do not have. Although the screen is brighter and more colourful, I found the PSP 1000 colours more natural. If you have never owned a PSP or not fussy about this screen issue then this might well be ok for you however I would recommend either waiting for another upgrade/fix or opting for a PSP 2000. Also, the remote earphones connector from the PSP 1000 is not compatible so you can only use the earphones cable without the remote connector which again is a shame.
I will wait for the PSP 4000/PSP 2 and continue using my PSP 1000 for now however each person will need to weigh up the postives and the negatives and decide for themselves.

Just thought I'd stick up for the PSP 3000 here. I received one for Christmas earlier and was so impressed with it that I thought I'd give it some stars on Amazon.
I can't believe all these complaints about the screen...I've found it to be sharp and crisp with great colour, contrast & brightness. Sure, there might be an interlacing issue or two - but they're not noticable unless you're pressing your nose into the screen...
Overall, a great multi-functional product that does what it says on the box. Thoroughly recommended.
