Product Description Resistance 2 transports players across the Atlantic to a besieged 1950s America where it builds on Fall of Man's legacy. There will be bigger battles, spectacular landscapes and an even more gripping narrative told from Hale's perspective - alongside an u
Amazon.co.uk Review The United States is being invaded by the evil Chimera hordes, and only you can stop them. Set in an alternate universe in which World War II was cut short by an alien invasion, this exclusive PLAYSTATION 3 first-person shooter sees the battle moving in the 1950s from the recently liberated UK to a human resistance base in Iceland and finally onto America. You play as Nathan Hale, a U.S. soldier immune to the Chimera’s mutagenic virus | Chimera spaceships appear over the America's coasts | Resistance is set in an alternative 1953, where World War II never happened | Fans originally accused the monster in the movie Cloverfield of being inspired by the Chimera | Although the single-player story mode features much more variety than the original, with many new weapons and Godzilla-sized enemy bosses, the game’s real appeal has always been the multiplayer. There’s now a whole separate story mode to play co-operatively with friends, either in split screen mode or with up to seven people online. There were some complaints that the original played the first-person shooter formula a little too safe, but the unique new 60-person online versus mode should help to silence most critics for this sequel. Key Features - Co-operative carnage: Join the battle with friends in an 8-player online co-operative story campaign.
- It takes two: Weapons can be used in pairs, including the new “Marksman” semi-automatic rifle, a .44 Magnum revolver, and a chaingun that can double as a sentry gun.
- Know your enemy:Fight more than a dozen new enemies in the Chimera horde, including the invisible Chameleon and underwater Fury creatures.
- Massively multiplayer: Up to 60 people can play online in giant-sized battles in which gamers will be organized into smaller sqauds to focus on specific tasks to win the overall battle.
- Team rewards: Do well in the multiplayer and earn battle points to boost your soldier’s strength, gain score multipliers, and acquire personal shields and other special bonus items.

Full Colour Resistance January 7, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well done Insomniac A great follow up to the classic original. My fingers ache from playing this, and I've got to get through COD: World at War, MGS 4 and Quantam of Solace yet! If they're as good as this I'm in for a great time.
Buy this game - it's as entertaining as an FPS can be!
Impressive January 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking forward to Resistance 2 because Fall of Man was an excellent launch title in my opinion, and by looking at the trailers leading up to the release of Resistance 2, I understood that the game would be significantly larger... But I cannot place enough emphasis on how HUGE this actually is; as a player you will often find yourself looking across the wide expanses of each map (provided you have time in between Chimeran assaults to admire the much improved Graphics). Not only are the maps insanely large, but the hordes of Chimera that are thrown at you are also larger in Number and size.
Now... Gameplay. They've changed the controls from Resistance: Fall of Man (which was an excellent control setup) so it will take some time to get used to the new controls if you stick with the default controls like I do however once you overcome those initial annoyances of remembering which button does what (maybe after 5mins or so) you learn to love the control scheme.
Graphics have been much improved with HDR and Bloom effects implemented, along with better rendered textures. Also, once you get a few of the Trophies, you can unlock further Video effects like Depth of Field and Motion Blur (accessed through the bonus options in the Start menu); when used correctly they add to the overall presentation of the game (I find that Low Motion Blur and Medium Depth of field produce the best image). The game runs natively at 720p, and on my screen (Sony Bravia KDL46V3000) I tend to notice aliasing (jagged edges) on the edges of weapons and objects however the game is scalable to 1080p which will smooth out most of the jagged edges.
Storyline: In a word was a suitable follow up to Resistance:FoM. The storyline has a solid formula however to avoid spoilers I wont go into it much beyond saying that you may find yourself swearing in shock or confusion at the ending.
Multiplayer is where Resistance 2 really shines, it is remarkably fast paced for a Console game and I imagine that I will spend many more hours pwning n00bs in Resistance 2 ^^. The Co-Op mode is also very good, and given the strength of the enemies you encounter, the need for teamwork is a neccesary if you wish to survive. There are 3 Main Classes; Soldier, Spec Ops & Medic. The 3 classes support each other excellently. The soldier provides Shielding and Covering Fire for the Medic and the Spec ops. The Spec ops provides Ammunition for the Medic and the Soldier. The Medic Provides Health Packs for the Soldier and the Spec ops. I find that the Soldier is the most powerful however the most reliant as he needs a medic and a spec ops present whereas the other two can work adequately without a soldier.
All in All, I would give this game 9/10 my rating is undone because of Amazon's 5 Star rating system so I will have to give it 4/5.
A must Buy for FPS games of 2008.
Unchallenging campaign mode, buggy online modes January 3, 2009 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had been looking forward to this game since it was announced last spring. As a fan of Resistance: Fall of Man I was anticipating a follow up which built upon the strengths of the original. So imagine my disappointment when I found out what R2 is really like.
Campaign Mode: Visually the game is stunning. The landscapes are marvellous and the mocap animation far superior to the original game. The single player game uses a two-weapon system (rather than Fall of Man's weapon wheel) and gives you a very linear and, frankly, very easy single player game. I played it through the first time on Difficult and found this easier than Fall of Man's Easy mode. The much-heralded 300-feet bosses are visually impressive but lacklustre in terms of actual gameplay; they are pretty easy to kill and follow a very linear, scripted battle. Summary of campaign mode -- far too easy and linear.
Online co-operative mode: this ought to be brilliant but since the game launched it has refused to let me play this mode. I have tried to play ranked and unranked games but in every case it boots me out. So I can't comment on how good or bad this game mode is. From what I have seen on the MyResistance.net forums many other people have been experiencing problems in joining games.
Online competitive mode: This is very disappointing. It uses beserks (like COD's perks) and a two-weapon format again. It takes far fewer bullets to kill anybody than in the original game. The spawning is horrific -- the number of times someone has spawned immediately behind me and killed me before I have had time to turn around. The graphics look unfinished. The animation looks jerky, and the flame effects are very poor. Compare the original game's air-fuel grenade with this one and the difference is stark.
There are currently a lot of problems with the network stability. 25% of my games have resulted in being booted by the servers, and many other people report the same problem. I don't think this is my ADSL connection as I have no such problems with other online games such as R:FoM and Little Big Planet.
The lobby system is a retrograde step from Resistance: Fall of Man. R:FoM's buddy list, ignore list, recently-met list, party-lobby text chat, staging area-text chat, and personal messaging have all been removed forcing players instead to temporarily shell out to the XMB to go through the slow process of sending PSN messages to other gamers. The lobby controls are somewhat confusing, and there are a few bugs which result in you sometimes being left behind in the lobby when the rest of your party gets taken into a game.
Insomniac Games have said they are working on a major patch, but it is not clear what issues this is planned to fix or when it will be arriving. I hope the patch will address the game's major shortcomings and so it might be worth waiting for the patch to arrive before buying the game.
Amazing!!! January 3, 2009 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
To start with the graphics are amazing, no flaws at all in the graphics. All of the levels have a deeper graphic detail to that of previous game, the background has huge detail and depth which helps to draw you into the game.
The story picks up from the first game and goes into more depth about the Chimeran and where they came from. The single player is detailed with an in depth storyline which helps to drive the game play forward. The introduction of new weapons and change to the old ones have made the gun fire feel more balanced.
A must for all ps3 owners, beats COD hands down!!!!!!
not worth buying January 2, 2009 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
There isn't too much to talk about with this game. Linear boring gameplay with boring enemies and the same old guns. After playing fallout 3, this game looks pathetic and is very boring
As for online play, 60 players doesn't add to much to the game. All it means is sometimes it takes a while to find people as the maps get are very large and that you can be killed from many different directions.
I enjoyed games like quake 4 and other FPS's so it's not that I'm not a fan of the genre, it's just that this is a very average game,
