Problems with wireless side November 18, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this control - despite having a PS3 I'm still playing PS2 games as there are so many great (cheap!) games and it would solve the problem of having my PS2 half way across the floor (my sofa is about 10 feet from tv).
One extra advantage is that I was able to use joysticks for a game 'Assault' in Namco Vol 4 which you can only do with keys on normal controller. It's an old game (for PS1!) but I was excited when I saw it was there and would work on PS2 as I loved the original in the arcade. It doesn't work though with the analog controls in the normal PS2 controller though but a lot of these alternative joysticks remap the keys to joysticks in analog mode (which this one does) so I was able to use the joysticks. (If you know the game you'll konw why this is important).
However my joy was short lived when I found the controls to be unreliable. Sometimes you move the left joystick and it doesn't react. This game needs pinpoint accuracy and made it unplayable at higher levels.
Not sure if I should return it as faulty - I suspect this is a wireless problem and living in London I have too much interference near me (I never got wireless lan to work reliably and went powerline instead) but this is unacceptable. My PS3 joystick works perfectly (bluetooth). It will work for a bit and then just hit a point where it stops for a min - impossible in the middle of a game! I thought might be the game itself as haven't noticed it as much on other games but played starwars battlefront2 last night and my character just started walking right on his own! When I plugged in the original PS2 controller it worked perfectly. I was also suprised how much faster my character was in the game with orig controller so I suspect you're not getting all the controller signals through the wireless channel and it makes it that little bit slower (and games harder).
Is it just me that's noticed this problem? Not sure if I have a faulty controller... Mark
What a great controller October 27, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I had heard mixed reviews about wireless controllers on the web and in the end i decided to give this one a go. I'm glad i did because it works fantastically. The battery life is great, so it's range. It feels just as nice, if not nicer in your hand compared with the official Sony controller. The hassle of the dog chewing the wires has gone for ever!! I'm just about to buy my second one of these controllers and I hope that it works just as well as my last one did. 100% great product: 5 stars!!!
