I miss naughty dog.... November 26, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
*sigh*.... well like "crash of the titans" this was another crash bandicoot failure... Its was so easy and just as the game started to get a bit challenging it ended!!! PLEASE if u (like me) have enjoyed the old crash bandicoots please dont buy this as i completely ruins it!!
Instead of having potals to enter new worlds, to start a new game this was one large world where i found myself going round in circles so many times i ended getting so frustrated because it was so dull.
AND the graphics.... OH DEAR!!! it was like they had just put on hand drawn characters with really freaky voices. I dont know who created this crash but im sure it wernt naughty dog because thye would never send out a game as bad as this one !!!
One of the best Crash games yet. November 3, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Cortex has returned, has ditched Uka Uka and for the first time since "Cortex Strikes Back" in 1997, he is the central villain. In this latest installment of the Crash series, Cortex and his one-time partner-in-crime Nitrus Brio have created a headset which turns people into giant mutants. It's up to Crash to rescue his kin from mind-alteration and put a stop to Cortex once again.
This is a vast improvement over "Crash of the Titans". Instead of individual levels, there's now one big world to explore. The standard "get from A to B" has been replaced by a series of missions. You'll need the help of titans, but now these mutants can jump and have a variety of useful and often unusual powers. You can miniaturise titans in your pocket for when you need them next and switch between two kinds of titans. In addition to the main game, there are a lot of sub-games to complete in order to reach 100% completion. The mutants are well-designed, the game is filled with interesting ideas, the vocals are hilarious (there is even some social satire) and the environments look great. At last the Crash Bandicoot series is back on track.
A Nice Suprise! November 1, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been a Crash Bandicoot fan for years now, and have bought almost every release. The last few outings for Crash Bandicoot were Tag Team Racing and Crash of the Titans. Both games in my view are probably the low point of the 12 year old series. But I'm pleased to say Mind over Mutant is a good game. The gameplay is similar to Titans, where you must jack a mutant and use it to complete levels. Whilst I'm not a fan of the titan/mutant concept, Mind Over Mutant has really improved over Crash of the Titans. The levels are really colourful and are beautifully designed, with some classic platforming thrown in too. Rather than been menu based like the last game, the gameplay is more free roaming, similar to Twinsanity, where you simply explore the Island completing tasks. Crash's spin is also more user friendly in this game, as is controling the mutants. The mutants now have a wider range of moves and can even jump. Once you are done with them, you can shrink them down for use later in the level. Our favourite characters are also back including Cortex, N. Gin and even N, Brio. The voice overs are hillairious in places similar to Twinsanity. My only grumble is that the games cutscences are poorly animated, in different comic book styles,(some better than others), I just don't feel this is Crash. Another grumble is that the game uses the same level maps oer and over again. You'll visit the snowy island many times, and the same with the desert. It can get very repetitive. The game is also very short with 23 levels, some are very long compared to some which only involve walking to another part of the Island, lasting only 30seconds. The game also seems rushed in places and the story isn't the best. One moment you are helping Uka Uka, and then all of a sudden you go to fight Cortex. It's as if the story was designed around the levels. All in all a solid effort, much better than the last two Crash games. Maybe next time we'll have a classic Crash, collecting apples and the classic range of boxes, but for the time being this will certainly do.
