Much needed extra space January 7, 2009 I thought changing the hard drive would be a long drawn out process but swapping my original 60gb drive for this 320gb was a piece of cake (see the previous reviews or search online for a video). The only problem you might have is that the 4 screws holding the original hard drive in it's cage are a little on the soft side so please be careful. I have to say that it does run a little quieter which I'm pleasantly surprised about.
All the extra space is definately needed because it's amazing just how quickly you can fill a 60gb drive. I also bought an enclosure from Amazon (about 18) so that I can use the original 60gb drive as an external hard drive, which initially I didn't realise you could do (added bonus).
essential buy if you're low on memory for any product. INC PS3 January 3, 2009 ok, i bought this for my 60gb ps3 and swapped the HDD. very simple job and no longer do i have to worry about my memory. Its a nice looking drive and you'll probably only ever see it once. job is pretty simple, just make sure that you have a good set of phillip screwdrivers with a decent amount of grip on as they're screwed in pretty tightly.
only problem is that once inserted into the ps3, its no longer 320, but around 260, but its the same almost all hdds, so whatever.
great buy and totally recommended for the ps3 or any other device.
Definitely worth it December 6, 2008 First off, I came to this item when looking for a replacement hard drive for my ps3 when the 40gb hard drive corrupted and rather than getting a new 40gb HDD, i thought why not upgrade while I'm at it.
In a nutshell, this hard drive is exceptional, it works perfectly with the ps3 and even seems a little quicker at loading data than the default HDD that comes with the console.
Very easy to physically slot into the system and then very simple to get it up and running because the ps3 takes you through each step.
After initial setup there obviously wasn't exactly 320gb of data to use in the ps3 due to system software and all that sort of stuff but there was still around 280gb to use, which lets be honest is more than enough to last for a heck of a long time.
Overall this is an excellent product that is well worth the asking price.
I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade a ps3 hard drive and I should imagine it works just as well in a laptop or as an external drive (with the external case and all).
easy upgrade November 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
got one of these for my ps3 and it was so easy to install. my ps3 recognized the hard drive strait away. there is no need to download a system update to a usb stick as noted by another user as ever thing was backed up or saved in the ps3 internal memory. if you want to upgrade you hard drive then try one of these.
Works perfect in Macbooks October 30, 2008 Purchased this HD due to my HD failing in my Macbook. Easy to fit and formatted to 300gb, seems to work fine and is quiet.
