NHL 08 offers up a few control tweaks and some interesting new features.
Electronic Arts has recently released one more title for their popular NHL Series and the new title is named as NHL 08. NHL 08 is basically a sequel of the previous PlayStation 2 title but the new NHL 08 is an improved game when compared to the previous title. The developers have worked hard on this title to cover up the weaknesses of the previous title.
NHL 08 features a number of game modes and it also includes some interesting new features. It includes a Dynasty mode in which you select a team and then you try to make it the best by beating other teams. In the Dynasty mode, you need to manage players and even the rosters and your goal is to make your team the best in the game. You can also enjoy the Season mode in which you have the option to choose a league from the six different leagues. The game also includes a World Tournament mode in which you compete against other teams and it also includes a Playoff mode in which you can create your own playoff series.
While playing a hockey match, your aim is to get the puck into the opponent’s net and this might sound very easy but it is actually not that easy when you are playing NHL 08. The developers have incorporated Hybrid Control Scheme in the game and it can take some good amount of time to master the art of scoring goals. It is not very easy to score a goal when the goalie is present and is doing his job. You need to grab your opportunity to score a goal. It can take some good amount of time to get a hang of the art of making perfect passes and shots. You are allowed to shoot almost anywhere you want but it can some time to understand your controls in order to move and shoot freely in the game. There are four difficulty modes – Beginner, Easy, Medium and Difficult and so, you can choose the difficulty level depending on your skills to make your game more interesting and enjoyable.
NHL 08 has improved graphics and visually, the game looks real. It includes a number of animations which look real as the animations are nicely done. But the characters in the game don’t resemble the hockey stars. The sound effects in this title are somewhat similar to the one which you experienced in the previous title. But, the sound is clear and the game has a decent collection of rock tunes.
At the end, NHL08 is an improved version of the previous PlayStation 2 title which covers the weaknesses of the previous title. Also, the game is available at an affordable price. So, if you like ice hockey then you can definitely consider buying this game as the developers have improved the quality of the game.
