The latest incarnation of the Burnout series hits the next generation of consoles and it shows. The game has been given a complete overhaul compared to its predecessors meaning every single part of the game has been worked on and improved. The graphics are simply stunning, whether you are merely cruising through the streets or involved in a high speed crash you will be amazed at the amount of detail which has gone into the design. Finding all the jumps and experiencing the crashes is just as breath taking as it always was but with the added bonus of the Playstation 3’s visuals, you’ll think you have died and gone to gaming heaven. Particularly impressive crashes or stunts will trigger a slow motion mode which shows your car from various different camera angles giving the game a Hollywood feel. If you manage to avoid any oncoming traffic and build up some momentum, the feeling of speed you get is unparalleled with any game out today, especially when you enter burnout mode and feel like you’re going to take off.

The main difference between Burnout Paradise and its predecessors is the fact that you start the game in free roam mode, in Paradise City, meaning you can go anywhere at all right from the start. You start races by simply pulling your car up at the traffic lights, with several different types of races to compete including Burning Route and Stunt Run. Single player mode also involves setting speed records and the like which can be compared with other players and friends in online leader boards. There are also many extra challenges scattered around the city to complete. Multiplayer mode allows you to go online and meet up with friends and strangers alike and either compete against them head to head or team up and complete pre-set challenges.

With other racing games currently out on the Playstation 3 such as Need for Speed Pro, Burnout Paradise easily comes at the top. No other racing game currently offers the vast range of features and excitement that Burnout Paradise does. Don’t buy Burnout Paradise if you’re expecting an accurate driving simulator, this is pure arcade at its best and possibly the best game out for the PS3 at present.
